Jack’s Next Adventure

by admin on September 18, 2009

In January Jack along with his father, brother and Uncle will travel to Tasmania to walk the South Coast track. It’s one of the greatest wilderness walks in the world. The track follows the southern coastline of the South West National Park, Tasmania’s largest national park.

It’s a 84km walking track, following the southern coastline of Tasmania.  The track has no huts, shelters, or ranger stations – far from any kind of civilization.   It crosses two mountain ranges and long sections of open plains.

It will take about 9 days to complete the walk and they will be carrying all of their equipment including 9 days worth of food. Luckily there will be fresh water creeks along the way where they can top-up their water. (Of course, no bridges over the creeks, so we’ll get a little wet!)

In preparation for this camping/hiking trip Jack and the boys have been going on bushwalks into the Gold Coast Hinterland each weekend. Jack also keeps fit cycling, playing volleyball and running with a running group.

Jack’s Last Adventure

by admin on September 17, 2009

Last year Jack and his father (Brendon) cycled across Australia – 4500 km in 30 days. On completing the ride Jack became the youngest person ever to cycle across Australia from Perth on the west coast to The Gold Coast on the east coast.

Read more about the Perth to Paradise bike ride.

To complete the trip Jack and Brendon had a support crew with two vehicles. They slept in a Camper Trailer or tent and all cooking was done from the small fold out “kitchen” at the back of the Camper Trailer that consisted of a bench and gas hot plate.

Camping was either in official caravan parks or bush camping. The most enjoyable camping was the bush camping where there were no facilities at all. Collecting wood for a fire, cooking dinner over the fire and then sitting around the fire as the sun goes down is what camping is all about.
